10 Days Mardi Himal Base Camp Trekking offers a unique trekking experience in Nepal’s newly opened trekking route in Annapurna Area.

The Mardi Himal Base Camp Trekking route is considered an alternative to Annapurna Base Camp. This trek is suitable for those trekkers who wish to explore the Annapurna area on the newly opened trek and have already done Annapurna Base Camp. The trail goes along small winding paths through magical rhododendron forests until you climb out of the forest at an elevation of around 3,300 m. The landscape abruptly changes into a rugged high mountain landscape, with amazing views of Mardi Himal, Machapuchre, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli.

From High Camp (3580 m), you can climb to Mardi Himal Base Camp in about 3-4 hours, offering spectacular close-up views of the entire Annapurna Range.

The Mardi Himal Trekking route was not popular earlier due to the unavailability of lodges and proper routes. However, now this trekking route serves basic local lodges and Tea Houses.

Mardi Himal is located east of the Annapurna Base camp, virtually under the spectacular Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). As you trek along the ridge, it is nearly possible, but imaginable, to look down at Annapurna Base camp itself. Mardi Himal Trekking is sandwiched between two famous treks; Annapurna Base Camp Trek and Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. Mardi Himal Trek is a hided trekking route among most visitors coming to Nepal annually; thus, only small numbers of trekkers make their way to Mardi Himal Base Camp each year. Mardi Himal Base Camp is situated under the glorious Machhapuchhre peak. The trail also includes several hours of walking inside rhododendron forests that look tremendous during March – April. The views along the route are impressive; it includes Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre, Mardi Himal, and Hiunchuli. More than that, the upper viewpoint offers spectacular close views of Annapurnas. The route is quite reasonable during the year compared to popular routes of the Annapurna region.

Mardi Himal Trekking is a classic trekking route to give you a taste of unspoiled culture and villages. Come and enjoy 10 Days trekking at Mardi Himal Base Camp trek with us.

Fitness and experience requirements

The Mardi Himal Trek is a moderate Trek. You can hike for about 5 to 6 hours a day and easily hike for more hours with a light backpack. The trail is relatively comfortable for those used to walking at higher altitudes. We ask that you hike and exercise regularly for at least a few months prior to the start of the trip. Previous hiking experience is an asset, but no technical knowledge is required for this trip. Also, be sure to consult your doctor before booking the trip.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance for any of our company trips is a prerequisite for booking a trip. At a minimum, you must take out emergency and repatriation insurance, including the cost of mountain rescue. Please read your insurer’s conditions carefully and, in particular, make sure that it covers the following: 1) activity (i.e., sightseeing, hiking, or mountaineering), 2) maximum altitude reached during the excursion 3) helicopter evacuation in case of emergency.

You should be aware that you are ultimately responsible for all costs associated with evacuation and repatriation and that it is your responsibility to pay for evacuation or medical treatment. You should be aware of the implications of taking out your travel insurance and understand the limitations and exclusions of your policy. Please note that under certain circumstances, our company leader may initiate a helicopter rescue in the event of a medical emergency without first seeking permission from your insurance company.

Best time of year for the Mardi Himal Trek

Although spring and fall are considered the best time to do the Mardi Himal Trek, it is possible to do it any time of the year. March, April, and May make the trail vibrant with rhododendron bloom, and the weather is also favorable with pleasant temperatures. With low rainfall and mild temperatures, September, October, and November also delight.

Autumn and spring are considered the best seasons for hiking, as there is less to worry about, but the Mardi Himal trail is also feasible in winter and summer. Since the trail does not reach high altitudes, snow is usually not a problem, and if you are prepared for possible monsoon rains, summer is also excellent. However, extra jackets and sleeping bags should be carried for winter trekking, mosquito repellent, and waterproof jackets for the monsoon.
